How did you two meet?

Ian and I met in 2008 at the University of Guelph. We had mutual friends so hung out once in a while but didn’t start dating until 2013 after we had graduated. Once we started dating we both pretty much knew we had found our person early on!

What’s the proposal story?

We were in Chiang Mai Thailand on a morning hike. It was just the two of us and a local guide exploring one of their gorgeous national parks. Ian didn’t know exactly where he was going to propose but when he saw a beautiful lookout point in what they call the ‘cloud forest’ he knew it was the perfect spot!

THE DRESS – tell us how you found THE ONE?

I had gone to a lot of different stores in Toronto and had mostly tried on dresses with more volume on the bottom. Something just wasn’t quite right though as I tend to me a bit more simple in my everyday style so it didn’t feel like me. I always knew I wanted lace details but once I tried on the Santiago dress with lace all over I know it was the perfect one! It captured the simple look I gravitate towards but had so many gorgeous details that made me feel so special.

What was the style/theme for your wedding day?

We wanted to it be very light and summery. Since we ended up doing it at my family’s cottage we wanted everyone to feel really comfortable but also did our best to make it a special day that truly felt like a wedding.

On your wedding day, what were the moments that made you laugh/cry the most?

There were tons of great laughs throughout the day! My family is known for being a bit louder and clapping whenever we’re happy about something so there was a lot of clapping going on. Both my sister and sister in law had wonderful speeches during our dinner. My sister’s speech made me tear up from her sweet words and then my sister in law’s made me tear up from laughter! I also couldn’t help but cry when watching Ian and his mom have their first dance, it was very sweet and they both looked so happy.

Any bits of advice for our future brides?

My biggest piece of advice would be to not let others affect what you truly want your wedding to be. With everything going on with COVID-19 there was a lot of uncertainty throughout the last few months before we got married. Just know that many people may have their own opinions on what you should do but in the end do what is most important to you and your future husband. Ian and I knew we wanted to get married this summer regardless of how it happened. In the end being with our family in a location that means so much to us was a perfect choice.
