06 Sep Dayle & Taylor in our Muskoka Gown
WEDDING LOCATION: Cleveland’s House Resort, Muskoka Ontario
How did you meet?
Taylor and I met in Muskoka. For those of you not familiar with the area, this is considered “lakeside cottage country” just north of Toronto. Summer time in Canada is precious, and many of us who don’t have cottages in Muskoka, are in constant search of someone who does have one so that we can get a little piece of that sweet summer getaway vacation! My two best friends, who ended up being a matron of honour duo at our wedding, were with me one summer night when we were chatting with friends looking for a cottage to go to. In comes Taylor, the funniest, most charismatic, MOST out-going and fun-loving person I had ever met. We were 21, I was hooked. From that moment on we became best of friends, travel partners, boyfriend and girlfriend, and 7.5 years later, husband and wife!
When did you know they were the one?
I’d say it was probably the first time we moved to Australia together. Taylor was in University there so he went first, and I had to finish school in Canada and wait six weeks until I could join him. It was the longest six weeks of my life. The moment I got there and hopped into his arms in the airport, I knew I was never letting go. And I never did. That was the longest we’ve ever been apart!
Who proposed and how did it go down?
Taylor proposed to me on our six year anniversary trip to Montreal. We drove there together, which was about an 8-hour trip from Toronto. We chatted the entire way and everything felt totally normal. What I didn’t realize is that Taylor was going over his proposal plan over and over again in his head the whole way lol when we finally got to our Airbnb he couldn’t wait any longer. He told me to sit down on the couch and told me how much he loved me and how he never wanted to spend a day without me again. There was a lot more detail to it but I honestly blacked out from happiness and can’t remember each word. I said yes and we spent the rest of the weekend alone, enjoying our trip in Montreal, ring shopping together! This was another sweet detail – he proposed to me with a “prop ring” so that we could go out and find the one I wanted together! The prop ring is still a special piece of jewellery to me and it sits in my jewellery box at home.
Tell us the story of how you fell in love with your dress?
I’m a bridal shop owner. Wedding dresses are my THING. But it was also what led me to finding my dream gown. I have Luna Willow Bridal dresses in my shop, and ever since the Bali Gown came out – I was OBSESSED with the pretty, leafy lace. I always knew I wanted it on my dress. However there was a certain shape of gown that I thought suited me best, so I asked the designer to make me a gown in the shape I wanted, but with my special Bali lace. The moment it arrived I was DYING to see what it looked like. I tried it on for the first time in my bridal shop alone. I put it on and then did a dramatic turn toward the mirror. I nearly cried. For months I was wondering how it would turn out, and the moment I actually got to lay eyes on it, I fell totally in love.
What was the wedding theme/style for your special day?
I’m pretty much obsessed with everything bohemian. Always have been! My home is decorated the same way. So when I was planning my day I was telling all my vendors “bohemian and whimsical”
On your wedding day, what was the moment that made you cry the most / What was the moment that made you laugh the most?
The moment that made me cry the most – was definitely our first dance. This isn’t usually where people cry, but our band had practiced doing our song “Crazy Love” by Van Morrison and they serenaded it to us as we danced outside under string lights. All of our guests surrounded us with sparklers and as we turned I could just see the faces of all the people I loved, dancing in Taylor’s arms, I just felt SO HAPPY in that moment.
The moment that made me laugh the most – was probably my husband’s wedding speech. Sounds weird to say! But honestly he has a reputation for being a sappy person at weddings and as we stood there together he could barely get through his speech without crying. It was the sweetest, purest, funniest moment and it just made me love him even more.
Any advice for future brides?
It’s probably what people always say – but the best advice I can give is to take a moment to yourself to soak in the day! You do so much planning and preparation for months and months, and then the day just flies by! During our reception we took moments to just stand back together and take a mental picture of everything that was happening and to just soak it all in. Also – don’t sweat the small stuff! At the end of the day it all comes together and the main thing is to just relax and enjoy each moment!
